Tribute to Silver Wings - the End of an Era

It's a sad day when one of your favorite restaurant goes out of business. It's a still "sadder" day when you go all the way back to California with the intention to eat at the restaurant. To top off the sadder-ness factor, it's "sadder" still when you show up at the restaurant with your family to celebrate your birthday only to find them closed and out of business.

That is what happened to our beloved Silver Wing Restaurant in Cupertino. Here is Traci and I showing our disappointment at the discovery.

Apparently, it is being replaced by a Korean Tofu House. Urgh! Stupid Tofu and stupid market-driven economy!

Here is a tribute to Silver Wing, a place where we've enjoyed many fond memories of celebrating life's milestones such as birthdays, graduations, and many other family get-togethers. You will be sorely missed...

... And a tribute to my personal favorite dish from Silver Wing, the Lion's Head, (aka Spi-cey Meat-Ball) I will now have to start a search for another restaurant that serves up this specialty. Thanks for all the good memories!

I never knew a restaurant could become so intertwined into the background of family memories until I found out that this restaurant has closed. Actually, on second thought, that is not true. As I am writing this, I am reminded of a childhood restaurant back in Taipei that we use to eat at all the time. Then it closed. Sadly, my favorite dish from that restaurant was the Lion's Head as well. We still talk about that restaurant from time to time, though it has been at least a good 15 years since it closed. Here is to you, Silver Wing, thanks for all the good memories and the good food! You will be remembered and missed...
